As a police leader, I am convinced that the only way to reduce harm in our community is to work together. A day doesn’t go by that I don’t hear about domestic violence, elder abuse or child abuse. We are called to the scene of crimes to deal with people in crisis. I’m proud of the way our officers respond with kindness and humanity. But when we leave, we go on to the next call. Families are left in limbo waiting for us to help them and sometimes weeks or months can go by with no help. The Family Justice Center is long overdue — we can do better.
The Ventura County Family Justice Center is a welcoming community that empowers and supports survivors of all ages and their families, through comprehensive, holistic services that focus on the whole person. Our collaborative approach creates a safe space where we use strength-based practices to end abuse and exploitation, pursue justice, and create pathways to hope.
